Karoo Rendezvous
The story is always the same. Once you've spent a few days in the seemingly desolate Karoo region of the Cape, the poison sets in you're hooked for life. Some part of you will always years to return. Perhaps it's the blaring silence, or the rusty melody of the faithful rotations of the windmills. It may even be the pastel splendour of the sky against a setting sun. There are a thousand reasons to fall in love with the Karoo. All you need is one of them.
If you have spent any meaningful time in the vast Karoo region, you will know precisely what I am talking about. A few days in the seemingly desolate Karoo region of the Western and Northern Cape, and you're hooked for life. A part of you will yearn to return - especially when life starts getting the better of you. Perhaps it's the blaring silence of the endless horizons, or the melodic, rusty rotations of the lonely, yet ever faithful windmill. It could even be the pastel hues and unearthly splendour of the twilight sky contrasted against the stark harshness of the semi-desert scrubland. There are a thousand reasons to fall in love with the Karoo. Even though you'll experience all of them, all you need is one of them to ensnare your heart forever.
When we were invited to meet the balance of the family at the exquisitely located Bloemhof farm in the Great Karoo, we knew it was going to be at the very least an epic road trip. By the time we arrived back at our home 6 days later, our hearts were heavy with a longing to return. It was so much more than a drive - it was an experience of a lifetime.
Yzerfontein - Strandkombuis
These days it's a rarity and a delight to be invited to attend a wedding as a guest, rather than as the official photographer.
These days it's a rare delight to be invited to attend a wedding as a guest, rather than as the official photographer. As it turned out, my first cousin surprised us with her wonderful beach wedding at Strandkombuis, a quaint and rustic coastal venue near Yzerfontein, on the West Coast. With summer fast drawing to a close, it was a near perfect, breathless autumn day on the beach, and we had a fantastic time with family and old acquaintances. I must admit that it was difficult for me to avoid taking pictures, so when I got the chance, I zapped a few of the exquisite surroundings and a few of my close family. My ever stylish brother and my ultra-cool sister-in-law were up for a few shots between ceremony and reception... and I really could not help myself! I hope that you enjoy viewing them as much as I did taking them.
